An Interview with Oona of The Billet-Doux
Hello! My name is Oona and I blog at The Billet-Doux, a personal diary of my experiments with fashion and, from time to time, photography. I am a 19 year old history student from India who never reads her notes but, instead, reads fashion blogs; watches runway videos; makes too many shopping lists; spends too much time fantasizing about wearing Jil Sander by day, Acne by evening, and Prada by nightfall; takes too many photographs; and gathers overwhelming amounts of inspiration from that I see around me.
What do you do when you're not blogging? What is your job?
Oona: I am a full-time history student but that doesn't mean that I delve into my books when I'm not blogging :p When I'm not blogging, I am usually out shopping or relaxing at home, talking to my boyfriend who lives in Sweden, or gathering inspiration from the world over online :)
How would you describe your personal style?
Oona: Experimental, perhaps? I am perpetually incredibly inspired by the runways, the fabulous fashion bloggers and street-style blogs, and I try to weave their styles into my own. One day I could be Prada-esque and the next day, I could be channeling Chloe Sevigny. I haven't yet but maybe someday soon :)
Who is/are your favorite shoe designer(s)?
Oona: My current favourites are Prada and Miu Miu!
What would be the one fashion tip you would give to a friend?
Oona: Dress according to your size! If you're on the plumper side, do not wear tight dresses no matter how sexy you want to look!
What is your fantasy splurge?
Oona: I have a couple: the Acne Atacoma wedges, Christopher Kane neon lace biker jacket, a Celine clutch and anything Jil Sander (even the market acetate bag in orange would do!) :p
What is your favorite dessert?
Oona: Strawberries and vanilla ice-cream with a dollop of whipped cream! :)
How are you able to stay fashionable without spending a lot of $$? What are your tips and where do you shop?
Oona: Actually, I spend a lot more on clothes than I should! I usually starve for the month and save, save, save and then, finally, SPLURGE at Zara and only Zara. That is my all-time favourite store! :)
What 5 items do you always have in your purse?
Oona: My wallet, body lotion, hair-ties, a scarf, and a little diary where I write down anything and everything (well, mostly my shopping lists)! :)
What are key pieces from your wardrobe that you find yourself wearing over and over?
Oona: A great pair of Zara jeans that fit me perfectly, a black leather jacket that my sister picked up for me in Amsterdam, and a really classy pair of Zara asymmetric court heels in black.
What's your most important makeup tip?
Oona: I don't wear a lot of makeup - just eyeliner and a dash of lipstick. However, when I can raid my mother's makeup bag, I always apply blusher this way: I suck my cheeks in so that there's a hollow on either side of my face; then I apply blusher along the hollow so that my cheekbones are highlighted.
Favorite beauty product of all time? Why?
Oona: Does my Nivea Sunscreen count? For obvious reasons. I'm afraid I don't use a lot of beauty products aside from the bare essentials. I am trying to not succumb to chemicals from such an early age :)
Your most worn piece of jewelry:
Oona: This little heart pendant in 18 k gold that my boyfriend crafted for me as last year's birthday present :)
Do you have any phobias?
Oona: Yes, I have two! Arachnophobia (fear of spiders) and katsaridaphobia (fear of cockroaches)! :p
