An Interview with Karl of inkarlcerating
I'm a nurse. I've been working for 2 years in the hospital already. During my free time, I play. By play I mean, I feed my interests in fashion. I have a blog (inkarlcerating) and it's one of the things I love most.. I am also one of the designers of our clothing line - Paradigm Shift. I love wearing wedges. I am short. Lastly, I hate crabs.
How would you describe your personal style?
Karl: at the moment , i think i am a hybrid of subtle avant garde mixed with androgyny and glam rock. I am very much influenced by European fashion mainly from Sweden AND ICELAND. I am very much fascinated with everything peculiar ,futristic and avant garde so what i do is i take in small doses altogether
Whose style, past or present, influences your style?
Karl: Charles Guislain changed my perception of seeing things. He showed that androgyny is a powerful movement in fashion.also,Rick Owens was my link to fashion when i was starting. There was this blogger who commented that my style looks like Rick OWENS,then i googled him and bam.. my world has changed..
Who is/are your favorite shoe designer(s)?
Karl: oh you know how much i love shoes! Alexander Mcqueen for the genius designs , Nina Ricci for starting the heel less shoes, local designer Kermit Tesoro's high platforms, skull heels and heel less , Rad Hourani's square toe heels , Margiela, Rick Owens' wedges, and Noritaka Tatehana's peculiarity.
What is your fantasy splurge?
Karl: designer shoes! if i would be filthy and outrageously rich, i would buy designer and "it" shoes every day or every week! seriously! i dont fancy it bags or purses that much ever since ive learned that shoes can change your life! haha
Where are you from and what are your top three favorite places to shop in your city?
Karl: Im from Manila. It's really hard to pick three for the whole of Manila because its a shopping mecca but the first on my list would be Cubao's thrift stores where you can find designer pieces for a peanut price. As for local designers, there's Myth in Greenbelt & lastly- Graxie Archaeology in Rockwell
Three things in your closet you cannot live without:
Karl: a basic oversized tee , black skinny trousers and drapey cover ups
3 fun facts about you:
Karl: i am terrified with crabs.. / i bite my nails / i am a nurse
What are 4 of your favorite brands?
Karl: 1. our clothing line Paradigm shift. Hongkong brand- DREX FABLE . local brand Oxygen .i cant afford the last one but i really believe in their vision - Comme des Garcon.
What do you think is the hardest part about blogging?
Karl: im not that knowledgeable when it comes to the nitty gritty of html, programming etc which i think is essential for a blogger. also , uploading/editing photos can be so tiring at times. being a blogger , you work as a one a man team, u do everything . but thats the fun part. you discover your talent
What is the most rewarding part?
Karl: simple- when people reads your blog and they tell you how they get tips , advices , inspiration from your own lil blog. of course , there would be sponsorships (shoes , clothes , etc.)and more connections to media, people, retail shops and... bloggers.
One trend you would like to never see again is:
Karl: hmm.. i have learned to be not so much hateful with trends since i respect each trends or style. But I believe each trend have to be in its own place and time.
What are key pieces from your wardrobe that you find yourself wearing over and over?
Karl: my old ratty and oversized shirts , deconstructed jackets, diy shredded tees , harem pants and my black cheap mondays
What words do you live by?
Karl: i am what i am
